Homework

The Purpose of Homework:

  • To reinforce and supplement the work done in class.
  • To complete material started in class.
  • To act as a bridge between the work of one day and the next day.
  • To develop and apply the skills learned in class.
  • To give students the opportunity to develop independent working habits.
  • To help teachers to keep a continuous assessment of a student’s work.
  • To help students to achieve their potential.

Homework Expectations:

  • Students should record all homework in their homework journal.
  • If a student misses a class, it is the student’s responsibility to obtain all homework details.
  • Students are expected to make an honest effort to the best of their ability to complete in full the homework in a well presented manner and on time.

The Role of Parents/Guardians:

  • As partners in their children’s education, parents/guardians should to take an active interest in their daughter’s homework.
  • Homework allows parents the opportunity to monitor progress.

Parents/guardians can help by:

  • Providing adequate facilities to enable their children to undertake their homework, such as a suitable space, heat, and freedom from noise and other interference.
  • Providing adequate supervision as appropriate to the needs of the student.
  • Examining their daughter’s homework journal regularly.
  • Furnishing an explanatory note in the event that homework is incomplete or not done.

Duration of Homework:

We suggest the following as a broad guideline

1st Year: 1 - 1.5 hours

2nd Year: 1.5 – 2 hours

3rd Year: 2 – 2.5 hours

5th Year: 2 – 2.5 hours

6th Year: 2.5 – 3 hours


Note: Homework is an integral part of the reinforcement of learning.

Students can achieve success through revision:

  • On a daily basis of the work covered in class that day.
  • Regular revision of completed topics.
